Dartmoor Oak Hand Loom — A Kit for Slow Craft

During our recent road trip around northern Spain, Ireland and Scotland, Jules made me a large hand loom, pictured here with works in progress, and my woven world opened up.

To create pieces of scale — including a womb belt and altar cloth — using the slow and simple technique of hand weaving felt deeply magical.

And so, Jules has created a Dartmoor Oak Hand Loom in his workshop on the western edge of Dartmoor. We are offering it alongside a hand-crafted shuttle and needle, naturally dyed madder root thread, brown local Dartmoor thread, Icelandic breed fleece roving, warp thread from the Shetland Islands, and a length of selvedge from Harris Tweed that we collected during our time in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland.

This is an alchemical mix of wood and wool, forming a kit of sacred tools — all held in a simple drawstring cotton bag.

The loom is suitable for complete beginners as well as seasoned weavers, offering a beautiful and accessible way into the ancient, meditative practice of hand weaving.

May it become a doorway through which deep magic is created, beauty is offered, and sanctuary is found — through the radical act of slow craft in modern times.
