Bog Oak Needle

Irish Bog Oak Weaving Needles

The beauty that rises from the bog;

whispering echoes of the past;

becoming a coracle upon which our threads can traverse

the wild and vast landscape of the Loom…

These rare and precious, hand-crafted oak weaving needles have been shaped by Jules in his workshop on the edge of Dartmoor.

The Irish bog oak he has selected comes from County Roscommon, the ancient seat of Queen Medb in Connaught — a landscape steeped in mythology and still dotted with prehistoric tombs, burial mounds, caves and ancient earthworks.

There is something quietly magical about working with wood that has lain beneath the earth for centuries, carrying within it the memory of an older landscape.

May these needles guide your threads and imbue your work with the wisdom and knowledge of our wise and well ancestors.

Each needle comes with a small skein of local Dartmoor peat-brown woollen yarn or naturally dyed yarn coloured with madder root.
