The Light
From darkness
We can make light.
Held within the honeyed void
Amber beads of knowledge rest.
Ancestor songs
Float on the wind
As the hum of beating wings
Sing us Home.
This is the final piece to emerge as part of my 4 part Collection ‘From within the Hive’. Captured here on Film, this piece was born from the muse of the light at the hive entrance- the thin and luminous rays that make their way into the darkness of the honeybee hive.
Representative of the Feminine mysteries, the sacred light from which we are all made and the gift of honeyed magic- this piece, cast from rare and raw fibres distills the essence this body of work.
Cast from Shetland and Hebridean wools, with rare raw ethical silks and local Dartmoor threads- and hand washed to create bespoke felted textures- this piece is entirely bespoke and its essence will never be made again.
I wove this shawl in reverence to the Edge Dwellers and carefully selected fibres from Landscapes such as the Outer Hebrides to hold space for the honouring of those who dwell between worlds.
This textile aims to cocoon its Wearer in luminosity and unconditional connection to the Land and all Beings. It seeks to wrap you in divine beauty, offering strong holding, nurture, beauty, warmth and comfort.
This Shawl comes with a Hand carved stick pin created by my Partner Jules from foraged Dartmoor Oak. The pin for this piece has been slow-ebonised using an Iron solution, making it almost Black. The tannins in the Oak react with the Iron to create a dark solution that dyes the wood- a similar process happens when using Oak bark to Tan Leather and hides or make Oak Gall ink.
I have written about the story of and inspiration behind the collection on a seperate page to my website titled ‘From Within the Hive’ if you feel curious to find out more.
