Buzzard-Mother

I am becoming.

She who holds the keys to the horizon
And summons the tides of the sky.

Buzzard,
barer of strong flight
Broad winged and soft coloured.

Wind dancer.
Golden beaked wanderer,
She who plays with the clouds.

This Shawl, made in reverence to the Buzzards who swoop high and low all throughout this island, is the sixth piece to arrive as part of my Becoming Mother Collection. It was created in the May of 2024.

The Buzzard has offered me the gift of broadening horizons and the recognition of our innate place within the great wheel of Life. It has offered me the gifts of clear sight and the essential essence of transcendence, to trust in the flow.

For me the Buzzard holds the grace of widening sight. Having the ability to see the world from afar and to witness the differing landscape from above it, the Buzzard reflects the necessity to inhabit new perspectives and harness the winds of change.

This piece merges a variety of British wools, wild Dartmoor woollen locks, a linen and cotton warp thread and wild harvested muga silk.
