Made to Order: Quartz Mother

Tangled in lunar light;
Luminous, unfurling,
She waits
As the moons tender rays wane
And the loom fills.

Out beyond
The lichen cloaked oaks.
Through field
Past stream
And tumbling water,
There are the high hills
Whose tor tops
Are armoured in granite.
Held by grandfathers
And hung with the whispers of elders,
Lichen clad wanderers-
Deep within these stones,
And sometimes opened, surfaced-
Lye bands of quartz
Black obsidian
Tourmaline.
Craystaline,
Luminous
Iridescent-
These bands of clear-white
Catch the moons-rays,
Carry the bone-hum
And honour our Earth-mothers
Tounge-
By shining in radiance,
Humble
Mysterious
And for my 13th weave,
Captured by the loom-
Oh this precious Land,
My forever-muse.

This Shawl celebrates the closing of the Wheel of the year, the precious dark, and the steadfastness of quartz bands that adorn our granite rocks.

A strong, soft and cocooning alchemical combination of local regeneratively grazed fleece, English Lonk wool and a band of wild harvested silk, Quartz Mother offers a cloak to be worn in times of contemplation, time in nature, meditation and ceremony. She is to be wrapped around you when you desire the protective power held within the dance of dark and light.

As part of this offering my Partner will craft a one-off ebonised Devon Oak shawl pin with an inlayed piece of local Dartmoor Quartz to accompany the piece. It will look similar to the one captured here, but be entirely unique and made to order. This pin increases the wearability of the shawl, and adds the visceral magic and power of stone and wood.
